V60 SILKY & ELEGANT

The real magic of the V60 lies in the sensory experience it offers. From the moment you start pouring hot water over the ground coffee to your first sip, each step of the process connects you to the unique aromas and flavors of freshly brewed coffee.

With a V60, you can explore the world of artisanal coffee and experiment with various techniques and flavors.

Coffees for V60

Equipment

To brew coffee with the V60 method, you’ll need the following equipment:

1. V60 dripper: This is the main piece of equipment. The V60 is a cone-shaped dripper that sits on top of a cup, jug, or carafe.

2. V60 paper filters: These filters are designed specifically for the V60. They are thinner than standard coffee filters and are designed to allow a more even flow of water.

3. Ground coffee: Choose your favorite coffee and grind it to a medium size, similar in texture to table salt.

4. Gooseneck kettle: It’s helpful to have a kettle with a thin spout for precise control when pouring water over the coffee.

5. Scale: A digital kitchen scale is useful for measuring the exact amount of coffee and water for a consistent, precise brew.

6. Kettle or water heater: You’ll need a way to heat water. It can be an electric kettle, a stovetop kettle, or any other method of boiling water.

7. Scoop or measuring spoon: Use a measuring spoon to measure the exact amount of coffee. The typical ratio is about 1 part coffee to 16 parts water, but this can vary depending on your personal preferences.

Method

Here are the basic steps to brew a delicious coffee with the V60 method:

1. Place the filter: Place a paper filter in the V60 and rinse it with hot water. This helps remove any papery taste and warms up the V60. Discard the rinse water.

2. Weigh and grind the coffee: Measure out the desired amount of coffee beans. A common ratio is 15 grams of coffee per 250 ml of water, but you can adjust it to your preferred strength. Grind the beans to a medium size, similar in texture to table salt.

3. Prepare the water: Boil fresh water and let it rest for about 30 seconds so it reaches the right temperature, between 195°F (90°C) and 205°F (96°C).

4. Prepare the V60: Place the V60 on top of a cup or jug and add the ground coffee to the filter. Gently level the surface of the coffee with a finger so it is even.

5. Pre-infuse: Pour a small amount of hot water over the ground coffee, saturating it completely. Let it rest for about 30 seconds to allow the coffee to “bloom”, releasing gases and preparing the coffee for an even extraction.

6. Spiral pour: Start pouring hot water slowly over the ground coffee in a circular or spiral motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Pour carefully and evenly to cover all the coffee.

7. Control the water flow: Adjust the speed of your pour to keep a steady flow of water through the coffee. You should finish pouring all the water in about 2-3 minutes.

8. Let it drain: Once you’ve poured all the water, let the coffee drain completely from the V60. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

9. Serve and enjoy: When the coffee has finished draining, remove the V60 from the cup or jug and pour the coffee into a cup. Your V60 coffee is ready to enjoy!

Experiment with different pouring techniques, coffee-to-water ratios, and extraction times to find the method you like best. Enjoy your coffee!

Tips:

  • If the coffee tastes too acidic and unbalanced, make your grind finer.
  • If the coffee tastes a little bitter, make your grind coarser.
