Coffees for Aeropress

Equipment

Here’s a list of everything you’ll need:

1. Aeropress: Of course, you need the Aeropress coffee maker itself. It comes with the plunger, the plastic chamber, and the filter.

2. Ground coffee: Choose your favorite Bluebell coffee.

3. Kettle or water heater: You’ll need hot water, ideally at a temperature between 175°F (80°C) and 205°F (96°C). An electric kettle or a stovetop kettle works well.

4. Coffee grinder: If you don’t have ground coffee, you’ll need a coffee grinder to grind fresh beans right before brewing. This ensures freshness and flavor quality.

5. Scale: Although not strictly necessary, a kitchen scale can be useful for measuring the exact amount of coffee and water to get the right ratio.

6. Measuring scoop: Use a measuring scoop to measure the amount of coffee.

7. Cup or jug: You’ll need something to collect the brewed coffee. A cup or a jug works perfectly.

Method

Here are the basic steps to brew a delicious coffee with the Aeropress:

1. Heat the water: Boil fresh water and let it rest for about 30 seconds so it reaches the right temperature, between 175°F (80°C) and 205°F (96°C).

2. Prepare the Aeropress: Place a paper filter in the Aeropress filter cap and rinse it with a little hot water. This helps remove any papery taste and warms up the Aeropress for an even extraction.

3. Add ground coffee: Place the Aeropress on top of a cup or jug and add the desired amount of ground coffee to the chamber. The amount of coffee will depend on your personal preference and the size of your Aeropress, but one full measuring scoop is usually a good standard measure.

4. Add water: Pour hot water over the ground coffee up to the desired mark on the Aeropress. Use a spoon or stirrer to make sure all the coffee is well saturated.

5. Stir and mix: Gently stir the coffee and water for a few seconds to make sure they are well mixed.

6. Insert the plunger and wait: Insert the plunger into the Aeropress and let it steep for about 1 minute to allow the flavors to blend and infuse.

7. Press: With a firm, steady motion, slowly press the plunger down. You should feel some resistance as you press. Keep pressing until you hear a hissing sound.

8. Enjoy: Once you’ve pressed all the coffee through, your coffee is ready to enjoy! Pour the coffee into your cup or jug and savor every sip.

And there you have it. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • If the coffee tastes too acidic and unbalanced, make your grind finer.
  • If the coffee tastes a little bitter, make your grind coarser.
