ABOUT

This coffee is produced on the family farm of Mini Granja Dilma, located in Musula, at an altitude of 1,300 meters in the Marcala region (department of La Paz). It is grown on 4 hectares of land and is harvested between December and March, before being left to dry in the sun on cemented surfaces. The farm is associated with Cafés Orgánicos Marcala (COMSA), a private company with a good understanding of the coffee industry and using sustainable farming methods. The cooperative supports producers who wish to introduce state-of-the-art organic production techniques. It works hand in hand with its farms to promote the change from conventional agriculture to organic and sustainable agriculture committed to caring for the environment. The nearly 700 producers who work with the company receive regular training in coffee cupping and organic farming. The cooperative also subsidizes the education of local children to help the development of future generations.

 

MINI GRANJA DILMA

 The Mini Granja Dilma farm is located at an altitude of 1,300 meters in Musula, in the Marcala region (department of La Paz). It is a family farm that has been managed by passionate growers for 3 generations, and is now owned by María Dolores Zelaya, with her husband and her children. They work together using responsible and organic production methods. Although coffee is the main crop on the farm (with 4 hectares of coffee trees planted), part of the land is also used for horticultural, flower and poultry production.

 

THE STORY OF PRODUCER MARÍA DOLORES ZELAYA

María Dolores Zelaya has worked in coffee production with her entire family for more than 25 years. The last 3 generations have grown coffee, and the Zelaya family now cultivates 4 hectares of coffee trees in Musula, in the Marcala region, using organic production methods.

Driven by the desire to improve professionally in multiple areas, she decided to join COMSA and carry out continuous training for the cooperative. And, although it is a family business in which she works with her husband and her five children, Maria Dolores successfully leads and manages the farm.

 

What is a WOMEN COFFEE?

We decided to support women producers by identifying their coffees with the WOMEN COFFEE logo. Why? because women play a vital role in the coffee industry, they have a strong participation in the farms, and represent more than 70% of the workforce in the fields, harvesting, classifying the beans…

However, only 10% of them are women entrepreneurs, and only 20% own land (including joint ownership with their spouses).

In addition, increasing the income of women producers has a direct and positive impact on the education of their children and the comfort of the home.
